Subconscious Mind Hypno Coaching Benefits of Hypno Coaching | Dianna Whitley, Hypnotherapist

Your Subconscious Mind Holds the Key

We all feel like we make decisions and take action from our conscious mind, but the unconscious is what is really running the show, and until the power of the subconscious is enlisted, it can be an uphill battle. Lasting changes come from the subconscious mind. It’s the control center, giving the commands for every aspect of your life.

Misconceptions About Hypnosis

Hollywood movies and Stage Hypnosis have created a lot of misconceptions about hypnosis. It’s actually a state of relaxation that everyone has been in many times. Hypnosis is a totally healthy, safe state. There is no such thing as not coming back from a trance, and no one can be made to do something they don’t want to do. A hypnotherapist doesn’t take control of your subconscious mind, they give you access to it.

You’ve Already Been in Hypnosis – You Just Didn’t Know It!

If you’ve ever relaxed in a hammock or on the beach, or gotten lost in a movie, then you have been in a trance-like state that is a very healthy and re-energizing. Meditation is similar. When you are in a deeply relaxed state a skilled hypnotherapist can connect with the immense power of your subconscious mind.

Can You be hypnotized?

There are only 3 groups of people who can’t be hypnotized:

  1. They have a low IQ: You need an IQ of at least 100 (average intelligence)
  2. They don’t want to be hypnotized: If you’re considering hypnosis because a spouse, a parent or anyone else has told you to do it in order to make a change, it won’t work. You need to WANT to be hypnotized.
  3. They can’t be high at the time of the session: You can’t be high on recreational drugs or alcohol at the time of the hypnosis session, though hypnosis can help you get off of an addictive substance.

Some people are more suggestible than others, but that isn’t an issue. I work all the time with clients who are not directly suggestible, or have ambivalent feelings about being hypnotized, I’ve been doing this over 20 years, and that’s just part of the job.

How Hypnosis Works

Hypnosis has been used for centuries, and is a completely natural state. When in this state, a person hears everything, including the noises around them, but they do not feel like moving. It’s almost as if their body falls asleep, while their mind remains awake. At such a relaxed time, the mind is open to suggestion.

The brain has 5 levels of brain waves:

  1. Gamma – Higher processing and cognitive functioning
  2. Beta – Wide awake and alert. What we call the “monkey mind”
  3. Alpha – Relaxed, but still somewhat alert
  4. Theta – Deeply relaxed. The level just before you go into a deep sleep
  5. Delta – In a deep sleep

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy take place in Alpha and Theta. Both of those are a profoundly healthy place to be, especially in our fast paced, stressful world.

You Are Always in Control

In the end, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. You are always in control.

I record the hypnosis part of the session so that you can listen to it later, as you go to sleep, on break during the day, or first thing in the morning. I can also teach you how to put yourself into a trance on your own, and how to do it in a way that you achieve your goals without resistance and hidden stumbling blocks.

You will most likely make profound changes right after the first session, and may never need to listen to the audio, but since the state of hypnosis is such a healthy place to be, I encourage you to listen to it as you go to sleep at night. I believe that some of the magic is in the repetition. Every time you listen to a process, neurons fire and get re-wired in a way that makes positive change easy and almost automatic. It’s almost like practicing and rehearsing their ideal life on a subconscious level. Going to sleep to an audio also produces a deep, restorative sleep.
